The 20th Annual life ok screen awards....

This week as the Golden Globe kicked off the award season in Hollywood (which by the way, went by without any desi connection this time around), the Bollywood award season was kicked off by the 20th Life OK Screen Awards as they complete 20 years of honoring talent in the Hindi film industry (& Marathi too). Unique feature of the Screen Awards are the several technical categories in addition to the acting and music awards. 

So who won this year? Of course, in the categories of maximum interest, there were no surprises (except perhaps that 'Lunchbox' was nowhere mentioned in the top awards)-

Best film: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Best Director: Shoojit Sarcar (for Madras Cafe)

Best Actor (Male): Farhan Akhtar (for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)

Best Actor (Female): Deepika Padukone (for both Ram-Leela & Chennai Express)

So we see that Deepika's streak of good luck continues into 2014 with her nominations for best female leading actor in two movies and she indeed won for both of them.

Movies wise-

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag also won in the following categories-

Best Background score: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy

Best Child Artist: Japtej Singh

Madras Cafe also won in the couple other categories like-

Ram Nath Goenka Memorial: Madras Cafe

Best Action: Manohar Verma

Best Sound Designer: Biswadeep Chatterjee

Chennai Express also captured the following slots-

Popular Choice (male): Shah Rukh Khan 

Popular Choice (female): Deepika Padukone

Ram Leela also bagged-

Best Costume: AnjuModi, Maxima Basu

Best Cinematography: S. Ravi Varman

Best Production Design: Wasiq Khan 

What about our favorite, 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', you ask? Well, it did walk away with the following-

Best Music: Pritam Chakrabarty

Best Choreography: Remo D’Souza (Badtameez Dil)

And Krrish 3? Yes, it did win-

Best Special Effects: Red Chillies

Aashiqui 2 walked away with-

Best singer (male): Arjit Singh (Tum hi Ho)

Best Singer (female): Shreya Ghoshal (Sunn Raha Hain Na tu)

LIFE OK Screen Jodi of the year: Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor (Aashiqui 2)

And 'Kai Po Che' fared rather well, soaring high in the following categories-

Best Lyrics: Swanand Kirkire (Maanjha)

Best Editing: Deepa Bhatia

Most Promising Newcomer (male): Sushant Singh Rajput

Bipasha Basu tweeted her picture with the caption, "Wearing a beautiful Manish Malhotra creation and Maheep Kapur's gorgeous neckpiece fr the Screen Awards!" (We say, yes, you look truly beautiful & gorgeous, Bipasha!)

Shahrukh Khan tweeted, "2 much happiness at Life Ok Screen awards. nothing to beat Big B's jacket. Thank u lespecially Star & Indian express" (We say, nothing can beat Big B's humility as well).

And of course, the hands down winner of the evening, the reigning queen of Hindi cinema, simply tweeted, "And thank you for all your congratulatory messages!" (We say, well, of course, Congratulations, Deepika!)
