Neeraj Ghaywan's directorial debut, Masaan, (English title- Fly Away Solo) premiered at Cannes 2015 with a five minute long standing ovation at the end. The movie, an Indo- French co-production, was selected to be screened in the 'Un Certain Regard' (French, meaning a Certain Regard) section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

The movie is said to be set in Varanasi, the holy city of India and tackles issues of caste system and taboos in the Indian society.

Both the director and the lead, Richa Chadha (remember her from Fukrey?) tweeted their delight at the success.

WE SAY ...

Love the fact that Masaan is set in Varanasi. The mecca for the followers of Hinduism, this holy city doesn't get enough attention, in our opinion.Historically called Banaras, often referred to as Kaashi, the city is home to many famous writers and poets like Kabir, Tulsidas, and Ravidas. It is known for its always-in-trend Banarasi silk saris, Kathak classical dance, and almost 100 Ghats by the revered river, the Ganges. (Read our article,"Travel To Banaras")

Also congratulations to Neeraj Ghaywan for his success at the showcasing of his debut film at an international forum. Way to go!
