voted than from any other country, with the exception of the United States. Readers from more than 225 countries in total participated, with U.S. votes leading the pack at 37%, followed by India at 17% and Russia at 12%.

On Modi, not surprisingly, TIME has this to say- "Modi, who leads the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, became Prime Minister in May after securing a landslide victory on a platform of rebooting India’s stalling economy. But his detractors have questioned his past record, citing the bloody sectarian rioting that took place in the western Indian state of Gujarat in 2002, when Modi was chief minister. More than 1,000 people died in the violence, most of whom were Muslim."

Others who led the poll ...

Protesters who took to the streets in Ferguson, Mo., after the police shooting of an unarmed black teenager finished second with 9%. Hong Kong protest leader Joshua Wong, Nobel Peace Prize-winner Malala Yousafzai and the doctors and nurses treating Ebola rounded out the top five as per the TIME.

Time Person of the Year ....The Ebola Fighters

The choice of the TIME Person of the Year is made by TIME editors and was announced today, December 10th, Wednesday, on NBC's Today show. And the title went to the Ebola fighters. Editor Nancy Gibbs today explained why the Ebola fighters were picked in an article titled, 'The Choice'. In it she says, "There was little to stop the disease from spreading further. Governments weren’t equipped to respond; the World Health Organization was in denial and snarled in red tape. First responders were accused of crying wolf, even as the danger grew. But the people in the field, the special forces of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the Christian medical-relief workers of Samaritan’s Purse and many others from all over the world fought side by side with local doctors and nurses, ambulance drivers and burial teams."

According to the TIME, the runner-up were-

Runner-Up: Ferguson Protesters, The Activists
Runner-Up: Vladimir Putin, The Imperialist
Runner-Up: Massoud Barzani, The Opportunist
Runner-Up: Jack Ma, The Capitalist

We say ..

Mr. Narendra Modi is certainly getting more than his share of the global limelight. Earlier this year, he had made it into the 2014 Forbes' list of world's most powerful people, ranking 15th in the list. And now he has swept the Reader Poll for TIME Person Of The Year. Yes, it does hold some significance even though the Indian voters drove him to victory. The significance being that once again he gets to take the world stage with the focus light on him. However, with prestige comes responsibility. Although Mr. Modi's ardent fans have certainly been given sufficient reasons to believe that he is well on his way to glory, the next four years are crucial for him to prove to the pragmatic among us, or as his fans would say, the non-believers. We think it is safe to say that, fan or not, everyone is eagerly waiting for the day ...

What say you?
